Baseball aficionados are being conditioned to accept this as normal now. It goes back to Stephen Strasburg being shut down in 2012, too. Resist the normalization of arbitrary pitch/inning counts trumping potentially historic feats. We don’t like load management in basketball and don’t like removing pitchers from perfect games in baseball.

I think this is a fair warning from the baseball gods for all the people who just accept this type of behavior as OK. The Marlins may escape with the win, but you better recalibrate the way you think or else there could be severe consequences.

Keep a Marlins reliever ready, see if Perez can retire six batters with just 20-or-so more pitches and you take him out in the event it’s broken up. Don’t deny him a shot at history. What are we doing here?
