Something doesn’t add up in India’s vehicle emissions narrative.
And the PROBLEM Zia that NO ONE is looking at this entire thing HOLISTICALLY!
AQI - Ban Cars
Ethanol - Lowers Emissions
Then why Ban BSIII cars 🤡
Let’s arrange the facts as they have been presented over the years:
• We were told older vehicles were not suitable for higher ethanol blends.
• Automakers launched “E20-compatible” vehicles and prices moved up.
• We were told E20 would become the standard fuel.
• We were told ethanol blending reduces tailpipe emissions.
• Now we are being told that even many older vehicles—including pre-2023 models and, in several cases, much older vehicles—can safely run on E20 and also benefit from lower emissions.
If that is indeed the position today, two obvious questions arise:
If older vehicles could safely use E20 and emissions reduce with ethanol blending, why was the urgency to replace millions of vehicles with new “E20-ready” models?
If ethanol blending itself helps reduce emissions, what scientific evidence justified scrapping BS-III and BS-IV vehicles solely on age rather than actual emission performance?
These are not trivial questions. They involve lakhs of crores in consumer spending, public policy, and the fate of millions of perfectly serviceable vehicles.
The Government, oil marketing companies, and automobile manufacturers should publish all technical studies, emissions data, and cost-benefit analyses behind these decisions.
Public policy deserves transparency. Consumers deserve clear, evidence-based answers.
