Yes! He just does @_MathAcademy_ at his own pace. He sets his own goals and works anywhere from 15 mins to a few hours a day, depending on what he feels like. He started in the middle of 2nd grade with their Prealgebra and finished Calc BC in 3rd grade. He did a few practice tests after completing the MA course and got a 5 on each one of them, so the program did a really good job preparing him for the exam. What I feel particularly happy about is that my approach of never forcing my boys to "show their work" didn't backfire. I thought it was pointless drudgery to force them to do it every time they solved a problem. If the kid can do it in their head, well, let them... And maybe if you want to see them write something, just give them harder problems. I always assumed that if they have to do it (to share their knowledge, to teach someone, or to write an exam) they will easily pick it up. No point in wasting hours and hours on it and being frustrated while they are learning. Half of the AP Calc BC exam are free-response questions and my kids, who were almost never made to "show their work" before, did a good enough job of showing their work when it was necessary. So perhaps we can stop tormenting children with that stuff now. 😂
